Tennessee baseball sweeps Cox Diamond Invitational
The Tennessee baseball team left Blue Wahoos Stadium the same way they entered this weekend: undefeated.
The Volunteers (12-0) won all three contests in the Cox Diamond Invitational, including a Saturday doubleheader after the threat of inclement weather on Sunday forced rescheduling.
Tennessee’s 12 consecutive wins to start the season tie a program record set in 2014. The Vols’ wins came 7-2 over Louisiana-Monroe on Friday, 10-2 over North Florida on Saturday and 6-3 over Western Kentucky in seven innings for the finale.
After losing to Tennessee on Friday, Louisiana-Monroe (5-5) bounced back to down Western Kentucky 4-3 and North Florida 7-4 on Saturday.
North Florida (8-5), which entered the weekend with SEC wins over Missouri and No. 3 Florida, lost twice on Saturday after defeating Western Kentucky on Friday. The Hilltoppers (6-5) struggled with three losses on the weekend.
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos open their regular season in a month Opening Night in Mobile on Thursday, April 4. The Blue Wahoos’ home schedule begins on Wednesday, April 10 with first pitch against Jacksonville scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
